In these days of molecular biology , genetic engineering and biotechnology ,taxonomy / systematics has lost the appeal it once had among students of biology. It is therefore refreshing to see a taxonomic work on freshwater crabs in print. A basic problem with most taxonomic works is the paucity of ecological and biological data abaout the animals themselves. The freshwater crabs form only a small fraction of the fauna of this region.
